Final Thoughts On Gencon 2005

<Fade In>

Our scene opens in deep void space, where even the nearest sun is only a bright star in the endless black backdrop. The TT Fleet Carrier, The Credibility Problem, drifts silently. It is apparently bereft of running lights and activity. It is here in the remote reaches of the Crucible sector, far from the traveled space lanes, The Credibility Problem hides from its enemies. The vast bulk of the fleet carrier drifts through space silently on minimal power. Its hangar bay doors are closed to the vacuum of space and the only sign of life is the faintest dim glow from the cockpit controls.

Deep inside the primary hangar bay of the Credibility Problem, Commodore Flash Meltdown sits down heavily on a multi-ton crate of detonite charges. He tosses his Commodore's hat onto a barrel of credits as he watches the view port in the hangar bay door. The newly replaced drive of the Plausible Deniability can still be seen through the view port as it races away from the fleet carrier. Flash Meltdown watches the ship for a few moments and blinks as it disappears into hyperspace. Quietly, the Commodore says to himself "Goodbye my loyal crew, until we next fly together."

The Plausible Deniability carries Claven Bastardson to the remote and secluded Ardmore Research station. Claven now wears Flash's old captain epaulets and is master of his own ship. At the research station he will craft new designs that will push the limits of space travel technology and hone his pilot's skills. Just a few hours previous the Dag Da'mor left for the western quadrants carrying D'aabuda' Abassk. The little Sullustian left seeking ways to prey on the shipping of the great Soro-Suub Corporation. With him, went the Verpine Engineer, Erilankesh Kasarkesk, in search of ways to accelerate matter to 0.99 Cee and beyond.

Flash Meltdown sighs heavily. The Chief Gunnery Officer, Boru Ghent, is off testing out his new Y-Wing starfighter and its new experimental reactor. The Droid Master, Del'Sento, is also absent, hawking his new line of Sento Pleasure Droids to the galactic masses. The Commodore knows those two will be back soon, so the Credibility Problem won't be empty for long, but he still feels lonely.

The great transport hums along silently as the Commodore unconsciously polishes his new sunburst epaulets. The past few
months of missions together were as always, a non-stop series of life and death encounters with the Empire and its minions. The crew shared many adventures with each other as well as the fine Rebel Irregulars of the Crucible sector. Old friends joined in and new rivals were added to the list. On some planets the craters still smoke; a testament to the crew's reputation. The excitement is gone, the crew departed for various sectors until they are called again to help the Rebel Alliance. Longingly, Flash Meltdown wishes for his crew and their friends and to be working for the Rebel Alliance once more. Then again, he is tired and it's time to spend a few months taking care of affairs and not worrying about where the
next blaster bolt is going to come from. Commodore Flash Meltdown moves over to the crates of credits and booty from the past few missions and smiles as he starts to count his wealth, not just in credits, but in memories and friends. Later, he will start plotting and planning. There's a lot you can do when you have the finest crew in the galaxy and your own fleet. There are ships to take, fleets to ravage, worlds to steal . . .
